September 9 – 18, 2012
This was more of a laid back week, after the busy week we
had last week. We are going to move
tomorrow to Whaler’s Rest near Newport, OR.
We would have loved to go north, as we have heard great things about
Seaside, OR and Long Beach, WA, but we have to be in Half Moon Bay in three
weeks for the Pumpkin Festival. We will
be there for two weeks, and then home for a month or two.
We were driving around and saw this - it was a lot of Jet Skis out jumping the surf!
Sun!!!!
We started out by moving to another camping site and we both
feel much better. We wish we would have
done it a week earlier. We are both
learning things as we travel, what we like and don’t like. What food we eat, and what food we need to
cut back on. I’ve been eating to many
cookies, and not exercising enough.
Good Breakfast
The weather has been great most of the time. We did get another rain, but no leaks. Not sure what is going on, but thanking God
for the goodness He supplies. Sometimes
in the middle of the day the fog will roll in, and then back out for a
beautiful sunset. We would like to be a
little higher in the campground, but this is fine, and we can even hear the
surf when we go to bed. There are sites
that you can see the ocean. We will look
for one of those next time here.
We have been to town a couple of times. Tillamook is the nearest large town, and Cape
Kiwanda is where we go to the ocean and Vonna can text and call our loved
ones. We miss not having phone service
at our campsite.

On Sunday Vonna had a pedicure appointment at 11, so we
headed to Cape Kiwanda and I dropped her off.
I headed for the coffee shop with internet service so I could work on a
couple of things while she was getting the treatment. An hour later she sends me a note saying that
she is really enjoying her time. She was
there for about two hours and loved every minute of it. It was in a place that over looks the
ocean. The lady said that she had been
watching the whales earlier, but Vonna missed that.
The next day Vonna had a hair appointment in Tillamook. We stopped at the Cheese Factory again –
something that we saw there and had to have, and at Fred Meyer to do a little
shopping. I dropped Vonna off at the
hair dresser and I was off to Starbucks just a block away. I had a coffee and internet service, and
Vonna came down a couple hours later looking great. It was a great day.

Found Service on Walk to Gift Shop!
Cape Meares is the shortest lighthouse on the Oregon
coast. We walked to the lighthouse, it
is a paved walkway. Vonna’s knee and leg
have been giving her fits, but when she found out there was a gift shop at the
lighthouse she roughed it out. She was
hurting by the time we got back to the truck, a lot.![]() |
Made it to the Gift Shop!
Anyway, we had a nice walk, the view was great, and we even
bought a couple of items. The lady was
telling us they were from Nevada and loved working – volunteering – in the gift
shop. They get a free campsite at the
state park with full hookups. Vonna said
she would like to be that kind of camp host.
There was a lot of history in the lighthouse, and we took pictures, and
enjoyed our time together.
We stopped in Tillamook for bread and off to Cape Kiwanda to
watch the sunset. We had the dogs with
us so we didn’t have to rush back. It
was a great day, a long day, but we had a fun time just being together.

Yesterday was a great day, sunshine and warm. Between 70 to 81 degrees, depending on where
you were at. Today is overcast and 55
degrees. The weather here is different
everyday, but it is nice to be out and looking at nature. The other day we were driving along and a
biker was stopped. I looked in front of
him, and there were two bears crossing the road. As we passed where they crossed Vonna saw
them down a road. I told her that lead
to our campsite. She said no more open
window at night. Now she has her camera
ready when we travel down that road.
We are going to pick-up the smoked salmon and mail it home –
not enough room in the trailer. We are
having a great time, seeing new places, working on things we haven’t been able
to do at home, and just enjoying each other and life. We
worked some more on Mikaylah’s Book. I
will let everyone know when it is done and where you can find it on line. Vonna and I have been watching a few movies
that we have picked up on the road.
Hope all of you have a great month. We would like to get to see everyone on our
trips. It is really nice to spend time
with our love ones that we don’t get to see very often. Annie and Ervin are coming back over the end
of this week. I was hoping to get to go
fishing again, but it will have to wait till another time.

This was up from our campsite. Vonna looked up our first morning and said "there is a cross from trees that have fallen. I took the picture as the sun was coming up.
